These layered apple crumble jars are the perfect breakfast or dessert! Make a simple oat crumble and add it with equal parts stewed apples (applesauce) and Greek yoghurt to a jar for an easy snack!

Why is it that even when I have a huge meal and I am so full that I couldn't possibly eat another bite that I still feel like dessert? Anyone else with me? I think it's a girl thing. And we're not just talking after dinner either - after lunch dessert cravings are REAL!! So my life-long goal (as of right now) is to find dessert that is at least a little bit good for you. Sounds hard when all I want is this chocolate self-saucing pudding but if we can crack a few good recipes for healthy options I won't tell if you splurge once in a while.

Here's option number 1, and it is good! Layered apple crumble jars! Apple crumble is one of my favourite desserts - as is, it's a pretty good option - until you add the compulsory scoop or 2 of vanilla ice-cream to go with it. But these adorable dessert jars tick all the boxes - no added sugar, delicious apples, creamy Greek yoghurt & a crunchy oaty topping that all combine perfectly to taste just like autumn in a jar. And yes, I know it's winter but I feel like I'm not quite done with autumn yet!

Do you know what else I love about it - you can make them in jars! I may be a little late getting on the "food-in-jars" bandwagon but I'm jumping on board in a big way now. What is better than individual portions that you can throw in your handbag? They are perfect to take and snack on at work when that after lunch dessert craving hits, or for a healthy mid-morning/mid-afternoon snack. It would even be a perfect breakfast on the run for those morning when you are out of time.

The hardest part of this dessert is the oaty crumble, and it's a piece of cake. Mix together oats, cinnamon, sliced almonds & honey, and toast for 15 minutes until crunchy. If you don't have the time to make the crumble, you can use your favourite granola or muesli instead.

All that's left to do is layer the jars. I used 250ml jars and layered ⅓ cup stewed apples, ⅓ cup unsweetened Greek yoghurt and ⅓ cup of the crumble topping and that's it! Instant, totally guilt free snacking. I made a few, kept them in the fridge and they lasted really well for the whole week.

I can't wait to make these in summer when berries are in season - if you're in the northern hemisphere, give that a go! Happy healthy snacking!

What a stunning dessert or could I say breakfast idea - mmmmm. I too am a little late in the food in jars bandwagon, I think I might actually buy some jars in the near future as I really want to get breakfast in the fridge the day before so I can grab and run. Thanks for the mention too.

I am definitely guilty of calling it breakfast! But it also satisfies that sweet tooth craving before bed...win win!! I'm a little obsessed with food in jars now =)
