Life with Macey - 5 months

Published: Feb 4, 2020 · Modified: Jun 5, 2021 by Laura · This post may contain affiliate links.

Macey has had a HUGE month this month!

To start with, it was her first Christmas! She was, as predicted, completely uninterested (although was pretty into her new crinkly book!) but got totally spoilt and we had an amazing day together just feeling so incredibly lucky to have two gorgeous girls to celebrate with!

Macey also had her first holiday! We went to our family bach in Whangamata for a couple of nights with my family and then to Waihi Beach with Josh's family for another 2 nights. Macey was a DREAM! She slept so well, both in her bed and out and about in the buggy. We had another few nights back in Whangamata later in the month and she had her first dip (toes!) in the ocean as well as lots of sleeps to the sound of the sea.

    What is Macey doing?

There are suddenly lots of noises happening here - she is the queen of blowing raspberries, has got the hang of giggling and a bit of babble here and there. But mostly raspberries!

She is the most placid baby too - she can be very quiet and with Sadie running around the place it can be quite easy to almost forget Macey is there - she just hangs out on the floor, happily playing until she needs feeding or a bit of attention and then she reminds us!

She has also started grabbing toys and putting them in her mouth - any toys that are easy to grab onto are a big hit.

She has rolled from front to back a couple of times then started lying on her side to try and roll to her front. She's sort of making it over, but I wouldn't say she is really rolling - she gets most of the way over, gets her arm stuck under her and just gets mad! But I'm picking it won't be long.

Right before Christmas we moved Macey into her own room at night. She was sleeping really well in our room and is a super quiet sleeper so it wasn't bothering us, but we have light curtains in our room and because she is starting to go to bed earlier, getting her down while it was pretty light was starting to be a bit tricky. She is still in the bassinet but I put it in the cot in her room and being much darker in there, it's going better. I have also just started getting her into a bit of a bedtime routine - into her room, pj's, feed, swaddle and bed, any time between 7 and 8pm. Towards the end of the month I started taking one arm out of the swaddle as she is close to rolling over. She is still in the bassinet though - one tiny step at a time - this girl is still sleeping almost 12 hours a night so I'm trying my absolute best to preserve that!

    How is big sister Sadie?

Now that Macey is starting to become a bit more interesting, Sadie is loving it! She loves holding her, giving her toys to play with and talking to her. If Macey is upset she starts singing to her and it is so sweet! Sadie also did her first (almost) solo nappy change which was great!

I love watching the two of them together - Macey has eyes only for Sadie! Their sister bond is growing already and it is so fun to watch.

    How are we doing?

SO great! We've had some amazing family time while Josh has been off work, we are getting some sleep (with the exception of big sister waking nightly) and Macey is getting to the stage where she is so responsive and is just full of smiles, all the time!

I feel like I have definitely come out of the newborn haze and we are in the stage of just enjoying every minute of our sweet girl (and holding onto the days while she stays in one place!)
