Life with Macey - 3 months

Published: Dec 7, 2019 · Modified: Jun 5, 2021 by Laura · This post may contain affiliate links.

Life with Macey just gets better and better. The last month has been amazing. Macey is such a content and chilled wee baby and now that she is full of smiles and is happier to lie on the floor for extended periods of time, life has got so much easier!

It's so strange to imagine life without Macey in it - it's only been 3 months but she has just slotted into our family so perfectly and it's like she's been here forever.

    What is Macey doing?

Lots of smiling, her first giggles (on my birthday!) and at this stage, still sleeping and feeding like a dream baby. At the moment she is actually sleeping from about 8 or 9pm until about 6 or 7am - absolutely amazing. I'm very wary about getting too excited though - Sadie slept really well at this age too and then regressed big time at 4 and a half months, so watch this space! She is still super spilly - way more than Sadie was - but she is never upset or unsettled so we are not worried about it. She is gaining weight and is content and as far as we (and our Plunket nurse!) are concerned, that's all that matters.

We've been trying her with a small amount of tummy time but by the time she has fed, burped and I've held her upright for long enough for the feed to settle, she's only really up for another 30 minutes or so before she goes back to bed. She's still very much in the 60-90 minute awake time during the day stage, but I'm picking over the next few weeks that will change and she can start doing more of that.

She's just started getting into the bouncer and can now reach out and grab the toys which she thinks is pretty fun.

She also started swimming lessons! The pools in town offer free swimming lessons for 3-6 month olds - we did them with Sadie and she is super confident in the water now and I'm sure starting early helped. Either a friend or my sister has been looking after Sadie while I take Macey swimming and it's been so fun being able to do something with just Macey.

The transition from 1 to 2 kids

I'm not going to sugar coat it - the transition to 2 kids has been pretty tough at times. Sadie has gone from having the full attention of Josh & I as well as anyone who visits to having to share that attention and it's been tricky to manage at times. That, plus she dropped her day time nap right before Macey was born, meaning afternoons can be pretty difficult! There have been a couple of times I've come into the room and Macey has been rolled onto her tummy or cuddled a little too aggressively but there have also been times that I've come back in to see Sadie reading a story to Macey or giving her little kisses and those moments are SO sweet!

Sadie loves having cuddles with Macey while I read stories to them and she always wants to help me burp and change Macey - sometimes she even puts me in my place - "mum, how about some nappy free time for Macey" haha!!

Overall, it feels like we are making progress each day and Sadie is a great big sister. We are enjoying every minute with our 2 gorgeous girls!
