Sweet, salty and pure delicious homemade Salted Caramel Sauce that uses only 4 ingredients and is ready in 10 minutes! Perfect for cupcakes, ice-cream or milkshakes!
I am so finely attuned to anything to do with salted caramel that I can spot it a mile away. Last week we had a girls night at the movies. There were 10 of us girls, we drank wine and came out of the cinema giggling like little school girls. $5 says you can guess what movie we saw.
Just call me Mrs Channing Tatum π
Anyway, I always get a choc top ice-cream when I go to the movies. They're my fav. This time I thought I'd be good as I had a little bottle of bubbles so didn't need both, but as I walked past the ice-cream freezer, wine in hand I couldn't help it. I snuck a quick glance into the freezer and yep. Salted caramel choc top!! Needless to say, I had wine & ice-cream for dinner. Always making good food choices.
The weird thing is, I have never really liked caramel. I would take chocolate or strawberry over it any day. But then when we were in the States a couple of years ago I tried salted caramel for the first time and fell head over heels. The silly thing is, it's exactly the same as caramel sauce, just with salt! But it's that classic sweet & salty combo that I can't get enough of.
The best thing about this recipe is that in 10 minutes, and with only 4 ingredients you can have your very own jar of homemade salted caramel sauce. Mix it into homemade ice-cream, make salted caramel frosting, dip apple slices into it, drizzle it on almost everything. Or just eat it with a spoon.
You can even put it in a pretty jar, stick a nice label on it and you have a cute gift for someone!
STEP BY STEP instructions:
In a pot over a medium heat heat the sugar, stirring constantly with a spatula or wooden spoon. The sugar will start to clump together and after about 6-7 minutes it will melt completely into a thick amber liquid. Be careful not to let the sugar burn.
Once the sugar has melted, add the butter. The mixture will bubble and may splatter a little so be careful as the sugar is extremely hot.
Continue to stir until the butter is melted (1-2 minutes) and then slowly pour in the cream. There will be more bubbling and splattering in this step so again, be careful. Allow the sauce to come to the boil, and then remove from heat and stir in the salt.
Let the sauce cool in the saucepan before transferring to a jar to store in the fridge.
The caramel will harden as it cools so you will need to heat it before using.

What kind of cream
Laura says
Hi! Just regular cream that you would use to make whipped cream - you might call it heavy cream? I have seen recipes where half & half is used too but I don't think the sauce would end up quite as thick. I hope you like it!

This looks so yummy....bit like Channing π
I don't make salted caramel very often as I tend to eat it with a spoon straight from the jar!!!
I am so excited by this.

p.s I am also super excited by the fact you can get wine in the movie theatre! I need to move to NZ!
Laura says
Hahaha Channing is totally yummy!! I am guilty of eating this right from the jar too...whoops! And wine at the movies is the greatest...especially at girly movies π
