If you are someone who is happy with just a splash of milk in your morning coffee, I am so sorry. Coffee will never be the same again. But if you are someone who loves a splash of coffee creamer - in particular French vanilla, you are in luck. Your favourite creamer just got made from scratch - it's homemade French vanilla coffee creamer!

America has definitely got a lot to answer for. Not only am I sure I gained weight (I refuse to get on the scales!) I  have also come back with insatiable cravings for so many of the delicious things we ate over there.

The first morning we were in the States we went down for our standard issue Holiday Inn complimentary breakfast and 2 awesome things happened. 1. They had a waffle maker aaaand the waffles were in the shape of Texas. Mind. Blown. And 2. Sitting right next to the coffee machine were teeny little serves of French vanilla coffee creamer. I usually don't even put sugar in my coffee but these little packets of vanilla-y sweetness made that cup of coffee. Every morning after that I kept my eyes out and if the breakfast had it, I had it. No more boring milk in my coffee, it was sweet vanilla coffee all the time.

If you're unfamiliar with coffee creamer, which you might be given that the only coffee creamer I've ever seen in a New Zealand supermarket is a standard powdered creamer and only 1 variety, it's basically fancy milk to put in your coffee. You can get non-dairy powdered creamer which we tried and I did not like at all, or liquid creamer which I think is a bit more real! It's basically half & half (half milk, half cream) sweetener and some sort of flavour. And not surprisingly, once I looked at the list of ingredients when we got home, a whole lot of other stuff that I couldn't tell you what it actually is. So yes, I loved it when we were in the US, but it's probably a good thing we can't buy it here because I really can't imagine it's all that good for you.

So obviously given the disappointment that was going back to coffee with milk, I knew I needed to make some sort of homemade coffee creamer. And I did!

3 ingredients, 2 minutes to make it and you have one epic cup of morning joe. It takes less time to make the creamer than it does to make the coffee!

Even if you can buy it where you are, you can make it at home before you could even find your car keys to go to the store! It'll keep in the fridge for about a week which means that you can make a big batch and have fancy coffee everyday. Or try to be good and just have it on the weekend. It's such a nice treat!

I used Puhoi Valley Organic Half & Half - but if you can't find it you can just use equal quantities of whole milk & cream. You could also use trim milk in the place of whole milk buuuuut this is special weekend coffee and the whole milk makes it super creamy and delicious!

Add the half & half to a small jug along with condensed milk & vanilla extract and whisk together, or add all ingredients to a bottle or jar and shake to combine.

Make your coffee as you normally would but instead of adding boring old milk, add delicious homemade french vanilla coffee creamer and be super excited about life and the delicious coffee that kind of makes you feel like it's Christmas. Also, I have a feeling this would go down so well in iced coffee too!

    You are welcome 🙂

We are coffee snobs, we only drink our coffee at cafes - except traditional Turkish coffee {short blacks} when we have guests over...

Haha, I'm a black coffee lover myself but my mom loveees super creamy coffee, so this would be the perfect thing to make for her! I remember seeing your Texas-shaped waffle and I thought it was adorable. I'm thinking I need a Minnesota-shaped one to celebrate my beautiful home state, but where on earth do you find a thing like that?! 😛

You should make it at Christmas and put a cute label on the bottle for your mum! Oh boy those waffles were out of control...it was the only state that had them though! I want a New Zealand shaped waffle iron...haha! You'll have to tell me if you find a Minnesota one!
