    Hi, I'm Laura!

Thanks for stopping by! I live on a farm in rural New Zealand with my husband Josh, our daughters Sadie & Macey, our black labrador Sage, pigs (on occasion) and too many chickens to count. We have a big vege garden and we are trying our best to become just a little bit more self-sufficient, one thing at a time.

I grew up on a farm and even though I moved into town to go to university I always knew I would end up back in the country. After all, you can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl!

I am happiest when I'm cooking a meal from scratch in the kitchen or up to my elbows in dirt in the garden. I love the idea of knowing where my food has come from and raising our kids so that they knows the same.

    Laura

We are just a typical Kiwi family, trying to live a more natural life by getting back to basics - homegrown and homemade food, making things from scratch and just enjoying the simple things in life. And more importantly, we want to help you do the same! And to prove that you can do it, regardless of where you live or what you do.

We also realise that living a more simple, homemade life or becoming more self-sufficient looks a little different for everyone.

For you it may mean starting slowly and just growing a few herbs to use in the kitchen. Or just to look at!

It might mean learning how to bake bread.

Thinking about keeping backyard chickens to get your own fresh eggs? I can convince you that’s a great idea in less than 2 minutes!

Maybe you are keen on sewing something?

Just want to learn how to bake a cake that doesn’t start in a box? Yay!

Or you might want to go the whole hog and grow all your own veges, raise animals and make all your own food from scratch!

All of these are amazing options! And we want to help you along your journey towards living YOUR best life from scratch.

This blog is all about our journey to our version of self-sufficiency. We are certainly not experts in any of this, we're just learning as we go,  and if we can help or encourage you to try something new too, even better!
