Guess what? We have a puppy!! This is definitely old news if you've been following for a while, but considering that the little rascal is most definitely a part of our farm family now, I think she deserves a proper introduction.
So friends, meet our little girl Sage!!
Sage is ¾ black labrador, ¼ border collie. Her dad is a chocolate lab and her mum is a ½ black lab, ½ border collie, the pets of friends of ours who live out here, not too far from us.
She was one of 10 puppies and when I went to choose her I had the hardest time...imagine 10 of this little face all asking to be taken home!
But we chose Sage and she is perfect for us.
She is super cheeky, FULL of energy but also loves to snuggle...for about 5 seconds while she is jumping all over you because she is just SO excited to see you!
She has a really short attention span but she's already learning to sit and she definitely knows what no means!
She really likes to eat chicken poop. So awesome. Needless to say, face licking is a big no no.
Sage is an outside dog. Josh & I have both grown up on farms where dogs stay outside and this is something we both agreed to. Plus, our house is NOT big enough for us and a big dog! She is really good and already knows that...she will put her paws on the stoop but stays on the porch. It's super cute.
She has a beautiful kennel that Josh has built and a good sized run that she stays in during the day. Her favourite toy is an old ice-cream container and a couple of seedling pots. She thinks she is super helpful in the garden...ha!
Our biggest worry is keeping her away from the chickens as labs have a tendency to chase and eat them. She can't get into the paddock that the chooks are in and we're working on teaching her not to go near them...we'll see how that goes!
When she's bigger, Josh will train her to be a gun dog and she will go duck shooting with him. Her job will be to retrieve the ducks that are shot and fall into the middle of the dam. Currently Josh has to row a little dinghy out to get them, whereas Sage will (hopefully) swim right out and get them - labs are known for being great at this.
She is so much fun, is so sweet and I have never had a pet who is always SO excited to see me! She will be a trouble maker but we love her!

Oh my goodness! She is adorable and now I'm feeling extra poody (like broody but for a dog!) I don't know how you can say no to her though - it's like that phrase puppy dog eyes was made just for Sage!

She is precious--I can imagine it would have been pretty hard not to come home with all ten puppies! 🙂 It's awesome that you guys are raising her to be an outdoor dog--I think that a lot of bigger dogs are so happy that way!

Thanks Claire! It was so hard...I 100% thought I was going to be Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids when she is driving past with a van full of puppies! And yes for outside dogs! I definitely don't think it would be fair on her (or the house!) to have her inside all day!
