Hey smoothie lovers, I've got a real treat for you today! A banana chai smoothie! Those delicious warming chai flavours that we all love about our winter chai lattes but in smoothie form...you know, because we're pretending that it might actually warm up for good sometime soon.

I became 100% obsessed with chai lattes when I was pregnant. Probably because I went off coffee for a little while (dark days) but still wanted something nice to drink. Anyway, chai lattes were it. The spicy ones too, none of that sweet business. Since then I've tried to recreate them at home but with zero luck. I think it's because I like the chai spices but not so much the tea flavour and I'm pretty sure the stuff that goes into cafe chai lattes is all sugary syrup with a bit of spice! So plan B is this - put chai spices in everything. Are we ok with that?

I actually got the idea for a banana chai smoothie from the cutest little restaurant in Raglan, the closest town to where we live. They have a banana chai smoothie on the menu and I immediately ordered it and loved it. The only problem was that it was too small. Oh, and that the restaurant is 40 minutes from our house. Not really an everyday occurrence. So obviously, I made my own!

It couldn't be easier. The chai spice mix is made up of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and ground cloves. Then it's milk, yoghurt & banana, all added into a blender and done! I definitely prefer this made with regular milk - it's way creamier. But in case you are dairy free or vegan, almond milk is also delicious. And you can easily sub the Greek yoghurt for a non-dairy alternative or just skip it altogether.

I have actually made this smoothie everyday this week, which shows how good it is - I usually get bored with the same smoothie after a couple of days.

It's the perfect breakfast smoothie, post work-out snack or just for an afternoon treat and with all the right flavours to make you feel warm & fuzzy inside!

UM, YUM! I went off coffee when I was pregnant too (it's how I knew I was pregnant) and started drinking spicy chai lattes with soy milk. Perfect mix of spicy and sweet! I think I will definitely try this smoothie out. I'm all about the chai lattes...and spices at the moment!
