Carseat. Check. Bassinet made. Check. Finished work. Check. Teeny tiny baby clothes on the line and in the drawers. Check. Hospital bag packed. Check. Waking up in the middle of the night trying to decide if I'm going to cloth nappy my newborn? Check. It's alllll happening. We are now in official countdown mode and it's actually quite terrifying! But also so so SO exciting!
The highlight this month was definitely making it through opening weekend of duck shooting in 1 piece. Not that Josh would have missed the birth at all, but we are forward planners and both knew that this would mean birthday parties clashing with opening weekend every year! Luckily for us, we have passed that hurdle and now I imagine we will be in for a bit of a wait! Which is fine. I'm all done at work and am now making the most of whatever time I'm going to have at home before the little one arrives!
Bump size: It's actually still not that big! I feel quite pregnant but people are still amazed when I tell them when I am due. It's very much all baby though which is a pretty good thing. I've had a couple of growth scans in the last month and it's all looking great!
Size of baby: Baby is as big as a leek...must be a giant leek, or a winter melon. Again, no idea what that is. It’s about 50cm long and weighs about 3.1kg or 6lb 8oz...although according to the growth scan, our little cherub is already weighing in at around 7lb 5oz so we will see!
Weight gain? At the risk of offending both pregnant and non-pregnant people I've actually gained no weight in the last 4 weeks. I was a bit worried about that, but the baby is still growing, so that's the main thing! Still inside the 10kg total gain.
Boy or girl? Absolutely no idea but I am SO super excited to find out! Everyone else seems to have very strong opinions about what it is which are still pretty mixed!
Cravings/aversions: Nothing really. Still just eating anything and everything! I've been a bit obsessed with these bars this week though.
General feelings: I'm telling you, trying to prepare for motherhood is a very confusing time! I've finished work which is exciting but also a bit sad as I really love my workmates. It's really nice being able to potter around at home though but I'm not feeling uncomfortable or over the pregnancy yet so it kind of feels like I'm on holiday. Just at my house, without Josh! It's been great being able to get everything organised at home, make some meals for the freezer and now that we've made it through opening weekend, relax a bit! I'm really really excited to meet this little one but I'm also trying to be really intentional about making the most of and enjoying this time to myself before he/she arrives because it's all going to change after that!
Looking forward to: Maybe having another couple of weeks to just chill at home with Sage, do lots of baking and visit some friends! But other than that, really looking forward to actually having this baby in my arms now!
Missing anything? Being able to lie on my tummy in bed while I'm reading!
Movement: Plenty of movement. My belly seems to spend a lot of time contorted into pretty weird shapes...I guess the babe has really started to run out of room in there! Movements are all in the same places...protruding feet over on the right side and the occasional butt sticking out on the left and little hands down low.
What I’ve been loving: All the baby things. They are just so CUTE! I am definitely guilty of just going into the baby room and looking at all of the beautiful things we have...adorable.
What I’ve not been loving: I was a little worried about the lack of weight gain but having the growth scan definitely put my mind at ease. Probably the worst thing has been waking up to pee in the early hours of the morning and then not being able to get back to sleep. Just getting me ready for what's ahead I guess! But I still consider myself extremely lucky. 38 weeks and I'm still feeling really good.
Maternity clothes? I have been all about the maternity shorts and jeans with stretchy tops this week. Super comfy. It's been great not having to wear nice clothes for work, I can dress purely for comfort now. Woohoo!
